Kim Marcus
About
Kim Marcus joined Wine Spectator’s San Francisco office in 1988 and was reassigned to New York in 1993. He became Wine Spectator’s managing editor in 1999, and returned to California in 2017 to take on the role of bureau chief at the Napa office. He was a regular taster since 1990 and was lead taster for California Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, as well as the wines of Argentina and Chile.
A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, Marcus was introduced to wine as a teenager while living and working in Sonoma County's Russian River Valley. His first job after college was as a reporter and then editor of the St. Helena Star, a weekly newspaper published in Napa Valley. A native Californian, Marcus lived in Napa and splits his free time between San Francisco and a cabin in the Sierra Nevada. He retired in December 2021 and passed away unexpectedly in January 2022.
