Spur Pruning

A vine training system in which canes (branches that are generally between one and three years old) are pruned down to bud-bearing stubs (aka spurs) along the vine’s woody branches, cordons. This removes the majority of the vine’s growth from the previous year. Unlike the other major vine training system, cane pruning, spur pruning can be mechanized, and is generally preferred in warmer regions.
