No matter where you are, you'll often find Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines planted in the same area. While Chardonnay tends to be more adaptable than finicky Pinot Noir, both varieties thrive in cool climates and a similar variety of soil types. So it's no surprise they thrive in Oregon. And Willamette Valley, the preeminent wine region in the state, has made its reputation on Pinot Noir. But its Chardonnay is proving to be equally as exciting. This week, we spotlight both grapes with a list of outstanding-rated bottlings from recent tastings, including a few newer brands to watch.

Oregon Pinot Noir's popularity remains at an all-time high; as a result, new brands are emerging, expanding the categories many options. This lncludes two Oregon wineries making headway with their new Pinot Noirs: Tekstura and Cho. Tekstura proprietors Michael and Natasha Baryla linked up with Jared Etzel, son of Mike Etzel of Beaux Frères, to make their wines. The husband-and-wife team purchased the Redford-Wetle Vineyard in Eola-Amity Hills, which serves as the base for their refined 2022 regional blend with cherry, blueberry, tea and sandalwood notes.

This selection also includes the Archery Summit Chardonnay Dundee Hills 2022, an expressive and generous white with apple and orange zest notes. Read on to get our score and full tasting note for this Oregon wine and seven others!
